Stocksfield Methodist Church
The existence of a Methodist building in the village goes back to 1870 to Ridley Mill where meetings were held in a two roomed cottage. When this proved too cramped a site at Ridley Mill was acquired and funds were raised for a building at the foot of Scar Steps. (the building still stands and is now two cottages). The new building opened in the autumn of 1870.
The church continued to grow steadily and in 1890 another building fund was started. The agreed site was at the south end of Mount View Terrace and the chapel opened on August 10th 1895 at a cost of £650. A hall was added in 1907 and there has been a programme of improvement and refurbishment throughout the intervening years.

Lively though it is, our church is simply a means to an end, a tool to be used in doing god's work. The real church is the people who worship there, then take their worship outside with them when they leave.
